The twelfth iteration of the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) digital marketplace G-Cloud framework starts on Monday 28th September 2020.
Jisc has listed its digital products and services on the G-Cloud framework to provide a route to purchase for those organizations that wish to use it. The G-Cloud framework is an agreement between the UK government and its suppliers.
Buying services through frameworks is faster and cheaper than entering individual procurement contracts. All public sector organizations, including agencies and arm’s length bodies*, can use the Digital Marketplace. Check the customer unique reference number (URN) list to see if you’re eligible.
Although primarily targeted at central and local government, G-Cloud can also be used by other ‘public’ bodies including those in the third sector and in education. As a result, it is increasingly being recognized as an easy way to buy cloud services by universities and colleges. Which is why Jisc has listed its Cloud product and services, so our members and customers have a route to procure them.
When looking for services available to you on G-Cloud – you will see listings of products and services under three categories:
- cloud hosting – platform or infrastructure services for processing and storing data, running software or networking. For example, content delivery networks or load balancing services
- cloud software – applications that are accessed over the internet and hosted in the cloud. For example, accounting tools or customer service management software
- cloud support – services to help you set up and maintain your cloud software or hosting services. For example, migration services or ongoing support
For those members and customers that have used G-Cloud to procure from us before, please note that we have made some changes to our services in G-Cloud 12, compared to previous iterations of G-Cloud.
Jisc Cloud Consultancy Services
The Cloud Strategy & Roadmap service is a consultancy service that uses a pragmatic framework of tools and methods; working in close liaison with your relevant stakeholders, to discover, articulate and assess your current organization, your IT estate and your operating model. This service helps formulate the vision and a strategy for transformational change, including an overarching cloud strategy, defining expected business outcomes and savings, target architecture, roadmap, key costs, resources and risks.
Jisc has significant experience in managing the migration of customer IT services and workloads from existing hosting arrangements to its data centres, managed hosting and cloud services. Our Cloud Migration service uses well-defined project management approaches such as Agile or PRINCE2 to assess, plan and oversee the implementation of your IT migration to a cloud service provider environment or between cloud service provider environments. In addition, we have designed an approach specifically for cloud migrations encompassing the flexibility of Agile with appropriate rigor and governance.
The service can be supplemented by several service options in relation to the technical design, implementation and support of cloud migrations, including IT consolidation which can be conducted during the migration or as a subsequent transformation phase.

For clarity, flexibility and ease of consumption we have designed our Azure Managed, AWS Managed and Managed GCP offerings around a ‘core’ support service. Whilst our core support service is designed for customers wishing to largely manage Azure, AWS or GCP environments themselves, our pricing includes many extras including patching, monitoring and consolidated billing. A key benefit is that the Jisc core support service costs no more than if you were to buy Azure, AWS or GCP services directly from Microsoft, AWS or Google respectively. If you wish to extend the service further, we offer a range of additional service options that can be ordered at any time throughout the service period. By engaging with Jisc and building on the core support offering, you can create your own ‘custom’ managed service offering.
The Jisc Managed Database Service looks after the day-to-day running of your SQL and NoSQL databases by taking care of the operational management activities, including availability and health monitoring, integrity checking, regular housekeeping, user management, performance tuning and incident handling. The service supports Azure SQL Database, AWS RDS, Azure Cosmos DB, AWS DynamoDB, GCP Cloud SQL, GCP Cloud Datastore, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL and MongoDB. We also provide a wide range of service options and can design and build a variety of data solutions to your requirements with our associated cloud advisory services. This service is typically procured in combination with one of our managed public cloud services -e.g. Managed Azure, Managed AWS or Managed GCP, however other options are possible including the use of other Database as a Service (DBaaS) platforms.
