Our work with Teleperformance to support central government

For the last 5 years or so, we have been working with TLScontact (a Teleperformance company) to design and manage the infrastructure that underpins a national service in the area of healthcare provision on behalf of the UK government.

The service was originally hosted in our own datacentre but about 2 years ago we undertook a lift-and-shift of the service into AWS. That work resulted in a stable AWS deployment but the application architecture itself was largely unchanged from what had been running in the old VMware environment.

More recently, we have been working with TLScontact to support a major upgrade to the application. This involved the re-design of the software application, coupled with the design and build of new infrastructure for the test, pre-production, and production environments. AWS Solution Architects in the Jisc cloud solutions team worked with the application development partner to help them upgrade their software, deploying and testing the application in parallel with the new infrastructure.

In working with TLScontact and the software development partner, we took the opportunity for a major overhaul of our CloudFormation templates and we undertook a thorough review of EC2 instance configuration and sizing, security settings, operating system and other software versions, load balancing and network connectivity.

The upgrade itself ran over a weekend to ensure minimal impact on users of the application across the globe. Jisc staff were on hand throughout the final deployment to the live environment.
