The GÉANT Open Clouds for Research Environments (OCRE) project aims to accelerate cloud adoption in the European research community by bringing together cloud providers, Earth Observation organisations and the research and education community. The new OCRE Cloud Framework is now live, replacing the current GÉANT IAAS Framework. The new framework has just one reseller per cloud platform per country.
Following a bid and selection process, Jisc has secured the UK Amazon Web Services (AWS) reseller position on the OCRE Cloud Framework. As part of the winning bid, Jisc has negotiated a significant discount on all AWS services (except the AWS Marketplace) for the benefit of the sector with no spend commit for purchasing organisations. Eligible organisations in the UK can procure via the framework by completing a call off contract to buy AWS from Jisc as the AWS reseller.
The OCRE Cloud Framework is open to higher education and further education institutions, research councils and other organisations that are members of higher and further education purchasing consortia.
Securing this reseller position demonstrates Jisc’s commitment to supporting the sector to get the most from cloud and supports Jisc’s vision for the UK to be a world leader in technology for education and research.
Director of Cloud, Josh Fry comments:
The OCRE Cloud Framework is a key enabler for education and research public cloud access, bringing significant benefit to our members and allowing greater value for money. Through the framework Jisc can offer significant discounts and seamless procurement of AWS services, helping to achieve our vision for the UK to be a world leader in technology for the sector.
