Jisc are pleased to announce that VMware Cloud on AWS is now available through the OCRE Cloud Framework, providing a simple and OJEU-compliant way to procure VMware Cloud on AWS and benefitting from the discount of 14% against AWS list price that Jisc is able to offer to organisations in the UK that are eligible to buy through OCRE. (Note that there is a 3.5% NREN fee on all transactions through the framework).
VMware Cloud on AWS brings VMware’s enterprise-class Software-Defined Data Center tooling to the AWS Cloud, enabling customers to run production applications across VMware vSphere®-based private, public, and hybrid cloud environments. By using VMware Cloud on AWS, you can continue to benefit from your existing investment in VMware skills to deliver highly scalable and secure solutions, migrating and extending your on-premises VMware vSphere-based environments to the AWS Cloud. This results in greater levels of resilience and optimised integration opportunities with other AWS products such as compute, storage, databases, analytics, networking, mobile, developer tools, management tools, IoT, security and enterprise applications.
To support your move of VMware resources to the AWS cloud we suggest that you make use of the certified VMware Cloud on AWS partners listed on the AWS Marketplace.
Whilst VMware Cloud on AWS normally requires the use of a dedicated AWS Direct Connect hybrid cloud connection, Jisc members benefit from the peering arrangements that are already in place between the Janet network and AWS. In most cases, we anticipate Direct Connect will not be required (dependent on current utilisation and application behaviour).
